Which handheld devices are supported?
CPGtoGo reader is designed for all Palm OS® and Pocket PC handheld devices running Palm OS® version 3.5 to 5, and Pocket PC 2002 and 2003 OS devices with ARM, XScale, MIPS, or SH3 processors. This includes devices manufactured by Palm, Handspring, IBM, Sony, Toshiba, HP, and Dell to name a few. The guideline document files are cross-platform compatible and can be transferred directly between Palm OS® and Pocket PC OS devices. Guideline documents may be read by licensed versions of the non-shareware iSilo™ Document Reader version 4.x and above for either Palm OS® or Microsoft Pocket PC OS.
- Will CPGtoGO work on Windows CE or PocketPC handhelds?
Yes. The CPGtoGo viewer is now available for Pocket PC 2002 and 2003 OS devices with ARM, XScale, MIPS, or SH3 processors. There are three versions of the viewer available to download from this website to support each type of Pocket PC processor: (ARM and XScale), MIPS, and SH3. To be sure you select the correct version for your handheld, see the FAQ "How do I determine my Pocket PCs processor type."
- Can the CPGtoGO reader read other types of Palm documents?
The free distributable CPGtoGo reader will only read CPGtoGo documents. However, these documents are cross-platform compatible and may be read by licensed versions of the non-shareware iSilo™ Document Reader version 4.x and above for either Palm OS® or Microsoft Pocket PC OS, although all CPGtoGo document features may not be supported by iSilo 4.x.
- How do I determine my Pocket PC’s processor type?
On your Pocket PC handheld, go to the Start Menu and select "Settings", once there tap the "System" tab and then the "About" icon. Be sure to download the version of the CPGtoGo reader specific to your processor type. Note: "PXA" denotes an "XScale" processor. If your processor type does not explicitly say "MIPS" or "SH3" you should try the ARM version of the Viewer.
- How do I download and install the CPGtoGO reader?
You install the CPGtoGo reader application and CPGtoGo guideline's documents as you would any files for your handheld. You will first download the files of your choice to your computer and then queue them using the Palm Desktop file installer feature, Microsoft ActiveSync, or other desktop application. The files are then transferred to your handheld when you synchronize.
You must have the CPGtoGo reader installed in order to view the CPGtoGo guidelines' documents. For step-by-step installation instructions, click here. - How do I use the CPGtoGO Viewer?
When you choose to download the CPGtoGo reader or any CPGtoGo documents, you can also select to download the "CPGtoGo reader User Guide" support document. This document provides step-by-step instructions for how to get the most out of the CPGtoGo reader including convenient shortcuts and how to customize the viewer to best suite your work style.
- How much memory do I need on my handheld to run CPGtoGO?
For Palm OS handhelds: The CPGtoGo reader for Palm OS® is a 487KB file. In addition, individual documents that you download may be between 20KB and 150KB, or so. You should also have at least an additional 500KB of space available for CPGtoGo reader to properly open documents for viewing. To use the memory on your handheld efficiently, CPGtoGo reader and any of its documents can be copied to and run from removable expansion memory cards.
For Pocket PC handhelds: The CPGtoGo reader viewer for Pocket PC requires between 556KB and 747KB, depending on your processor type. In addition, individual documents that you download may be between 20KB and 150KB, or so. You should also have at least an additional 1MB of space available for CPGtoGo reader to properly open documents for viewing. To use the memory on your handheld efficiently, CPGtoGo Guidelines' documents can be copied to and run from removable expansion memory cards by creating and placing them in a \My Documents folder on the expansion card.
- I have downloaded a Guideline document, but I cannot find it on my handheld.
Every time the CPGtoGo reader is run it will scan the handheld's memory for CPGtoGo guideline documents. All the readable documents will show in the reader's document list. If a small icon is shown to the left of a document title, that document has been installed on a removable memory card. If the card on which the document is stored is not currently inserted in the handheld, when you tap the document title, CPGtoGo reader will display a message prompting you to insert the appropriate memory card.
Every time it is launched the CPGtoGo reader will automatically scan certain directories for CPGtoGo reader documents on the handheld device and on any installed removable memory cards.
For Palm OS handhelds: CPGtoGo reader will find any documents on the handheld. In order to find documents on an expansion memory card, the document must be in either the /Palm/Programs/CPGtoGo/ folder or in the /Palm/Launcher folder. Using the "Copy" function either within CPGtoGo or the Palm OS App Menu will place the documents in the correct folder.
For Pocket PC Handhelds: In order to be found on the handheld, CPGtoGo reader documents must be in either the \My Documents folder or in the \My Documents\CPGtoGo folder. On an expansion memory card, the documents must be in a \My Documents folder.
If you believe you have installed a CPGtoGo reader document on your handheld and do not see it:
First make sure you have the CPGtoGo reader application installed on your handheld. It is required to view the documents.
To check for the the CPGtoGo reader on a Palm OS® handheld, follow these steps:
- While on the Launcher ("Home" menu on the handheld), tap the "pull-down" menu button to the left of the Graffiti area.
- From the "App" menu item drop-down list, choose "Info " This will show a list of all applications installed on the handheld unit. If your handheld supports removable storage media, a drop-down "Device" list at the top of the Info screen will let you switch between viewing the contents of your handheld and the contents of any inserted memory card.
- Scroll through the alphabetical listing. If the CPGtoGo reader is installed, you will see "CPGtoGo" in the list.
- If you cannot find "CPGtoGo" listed, install the CPGtoGo reader (CPGtoGo.PRC), available in the download area of this site.
- If you still do not see the document, from the CPGtoGo reader's document list tap the "Categories" drop down list on the upper right of the screen and choose "All" to display all documents.
To check for the CPGtoGo reader on a Pocket PC handheld, follow these steps:
- From the Start Menu, select "Programs." You should see the CPGtoGo reader application icon.
- If you cannot find "CPGtoGo" listed, install the CPGtoGo reader appropriate for your handheld's processor type. The three different versions are available in the download area of this site.
Still cannot find your files ...
- The CPGtoGo reader (on Palm OS only) or CPGtoGo reader documents (on either Palm or Pocket PC) may be installed and moved to a removable memory card. If you have done this, be sure the correct memory card is properly inserted into the handheld.
- If the CPGtoGo reader is installed, run the software by tapping its icon under Programs from the Start Menu on a Pocket PC or on a Palm OS handheld's Launcher Menu. If you do not see the icon on a Palm OS handheld:
- Tap the "Home" icon to the left of the Graffiti area on the handheld.
- If the icon does not show, tap the "Categories" drop down list on the upper right of the handheld's screen and choose "All" to display all programs.
- From the CPGtoGo reader document list, tap on the name of a document to open it.
- If you still do not see the document:
- On a Palm OS handheld: From the CPGtoGo reader viewer's document list, tap the "Categories" drop down list on the upper right of the screen and choose "Al"" to display all documents.
- On a Pocket PC handheld: Use the File Explorer to locate the CPGtoGo reader document and then be sure you place it in either the \My Documents folder or the \My Documents\CPGtoGo folder.
